The Apprenticeship Levy: Unlocking Potential in Schools and Colleges
- Introduced in 2017
- Requires employers with annual pay bill over £3 million to contribute 0.5% towards apprenticeship training
- £180 million paid annually by schools
- Less than 22% of levy funds utilized by schools
Contribution: Employers with annual pay bill over £3 million contribute 0.5% to the levy
Digital Account: Funds are deposited into the employer's apprenticeship service account
Government Top-up: 10% government top-up on deposited funds
Expiration: Funds expire after 24 months if unused
Usage: Can be used to pay for apprenticeship training and assessment
Transfers: Up to 50% of funds can be transferred to other employers
