The Government’s package of financial support for Harlow in the pandemic has soared past £200 million in addition to the furlough scheme which has protected over 16,000 Harlow jobs.
The support has included:
-
£37 million in Government grants to local businesses
-
£41 million to support self-employed residents
-
£121 million in Government-backed loans to boost local businesses
-
£2.5 million to support the running of Harlow Council
-
£1 million to support residents who have struggled to pay Council Tax
-
£872,000 to help rough sleepers into safe accommodation
-
£565,000 directly to hospitality businesses through Eat Out to Help Out
-
16,000 local jobs protected by the furlough scheme
Commenting on the financial support, Harlow’s MP, Robert Halfon, said: “I have worked hard every day to lobby the Government for major financial support for Harlow residents and businesses. These measures have gone a long way to helping so many across our town.
“With the incredible vaccine roll out there is light at the end of the tunnel and in the meantime, I will continue to do all I can to ensure every resident, community organisation and business has the support they need.”
